THIS WEEK WE ARE LEARNING HOW TO USE ABLETON AS A DJ!!! COME THRU!
— The Scratch Sessions: DJ Bizzon offers open turntables and free DJ lessons for Milwaukee youth every Monday night!
DJ Bizzon hosts “The Scratch Sessions” every Monday from 4-8pm at the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts (926 E Center Street) for the upcoming DJs around Milwaukee. Youth aged between 12-19, no matter the experience level, can learn everything from the fundamentals of DJing, all the way to turning it into a full-time career.
Youth will learn hands-on from DJ Bizzon and other professional DJs with lessons on music selection, scratching, beat matching, event planning and promotions. Lessons will be based on vinyl turntables, as well as Serato DJ and Traktor. If youth have equipment and are able, they are encouraged to bring their own so they continue to practice at home.
As youth grow in their skills, DJ Bizzon will assist youth in creating and throwing their own events, provide opportunities for them to DJ with him and other DJ guests, as well as work with him at WMSE 91.7FM on his radio weekly radio show, “Those Hip Hop Guys”. This allows youth to make money for themselves and gain experience in the various types of DJ careers that they can follow.
One of the largest barriers for anyone to get involved with DJing is access, which is why The Scratch Sessions are “pay-what-you-can”. The main priority is making their voice heard through the turntables. So even if someone isn’t able to offer anything monetarily, DJ Bizzon doesn’t care. If they want to learn and get involved, there is a place for them. Any money raised will go to support buying more gear and food and space rental costs.
